We were there for a day in the Chamonix region to see Mt. Blanc, the highest mountain in France (or is it in Europe ?). There is a mountain range and one of them is the high one, Mt. Blanc, though in the profusion of mountains in the range, which one is Mt. Blanc is not so clear :-). This is a most spectacular area. The mountains are jagged and its as if they end in a razor sharp points and ridges. There is a cable car ride to the top of Mt. Blanc more or less. The view from up there is (obviously) spectacular. Some fun facts: the France Italy border runs right there, so there is a place at the top of the moutain where there are some tunnels and if you walk into one tunnel you go over to the Italian side of the mountain range. You can also see some small glaciers in the area. I first noticed an area of the mountains there was was looking pretty different from the rest, there wasn't any snow there and it was a dirty white colour and didn't look like ice either but some mineral or something. Later someone told us it was a glacier. BTW, I've looked on the web and both spelling Chamonix and Chamounix seem to be used...
The photos look best when viewed as a large size image
This photo is from the town of Chamounix and shows the jaggedness of the mountains clearly. I think the third from the left is Mt Blanc.
This is seeing across the valley, to a mountain range on the other side
The next four photos are various views from the top of the mountain
Looking down to the town of Chamounix:
The intermediate stage on the cable up is called Aiguille du midi. We took a 'patel' there:

Chamonix, France - This is where Frederique Bichat who was a very close friend at Cosmopolitan club was from. Wish I had know this was on the itinary, I could have emailed her and maybe you'll could have met up. She used to say, that when she could see the alps from her bedroom window at home. The chilliest of winters at Illinois never seemed to phase her.
How did Banu do in that extremely cold weather?
The weather was not so bad as it was summer. It got pretty cold at the top of Mt. Blanc where we took the photographs, but we were there only briefly
Banu did get a cold in Switzerland that's still persisting, but otherwise did okay...
I love your website. It has a lot of great pictures and is very informative.
