My birthday...

is January 6th. I share it with Kapil Dev (a fact I knew from being a childhood cricket fan), and with Joey Lauren Adams, Rowan Atkinson, Syd Barrett, the Reverend Dr Moon (ugh!), Kahlil Gibran, and Joan of Arc (which I found out here)

Well, here's how you can give me a happy birthday -- click on some of the links to the fine advertisers on this and that website. There's a new post over there by the way.

Umm, a small note. I think its not out of the question that I'll go to Delhi for the portal launch. Its not out of the question that I won't go either. Lets leave it at that for now.

Re Borat:

I found the TV shows of ALI'G to be excellent while a significant part of the movie just OK. The reason is the following:

When Cohen makes fun of the powerful and those whom society puts on a pedestal (Gingrich, FBI administrators) etc the tension between these elite folks image of themselves and ali-g's image of them makes excellent humor. The joke comes packaged with rooting for the underdog.

When he decides to incognito make fun of ordinary joe's, the humor deteriorates to juvenile/cruel humor of the sort that arises when you are in on an inside joke that is on some one else. In contrast to the underdog appeal of ali g, the character now becomes the bully.

For once, I agree with your analysis so completely that I'm tempted to say, 'isn't it obvious?'. Occasion to celebrate, no, when we agree on something like this ? I haven't seen the movie etc. of course, but I'm sure my reaction will be on the lines you mentioned.

Happy Birthday! Here's wishing you a great year and many more happier ones to come!

Re: Borat, I saw the movie, parts of it had me in stitches but parts of it were too gross for my taste. I think the guy is an incredible actor though.

Good photos technically. Very atmospheric.
There is no trash or dirt anywhere. Is that how Puerto Rico is, or are you showing us (or were you shown!) a sanitised versions ?

Puerto rico is cleaner than India, cleaner than NYC but not cleaner than the rest of the states.

I beg to differ.
A life with just moment of sheer brilliance is better than a life time of mediocrity. So Barrett lead a far more fulfilling life, in my view, than most of the rest of us.
